Windows Vista has a built-in support for Serial ATA (SATA) hard drives however, it does not automatically enable the advanced write caching features. You can actually speed-up your PC by enabling this mode from Device Manager.
To go quickly to Device Manager, just type “device” into the Start Menu search box. Or another way for accessing it is typing “devmgmt.msc” from the command line.
Open up the Disk drives section of the tree by clicking on the plus (+) sign next to it. Right-click on your hard drive and choose Properties.
Choose the Policies tab. You should be able to see this dialog:
Click on the checkbox for Enable advanced performance and you are done!
